Birdsville Police Road Update 27th June
Birdsville to the North
NO CHANGE – The Eyre Developmental Road from Bedourie to Birdsville has re-opened (Lake Machattie by pass no longer in use) and only has a 15klm section of dirt.
Local council have completed works on the dirt section and it is great condition at this time.
Birdsville to the West
Access to the Simpson Desert National Park is currently closed from Big Red due to river flooding at Eyre Creek this will be re-assessed on 15/7/2023
Some enquiries have been received regarding the Plenty Highway via Alice Springs, information provided suggests that travellers check conditions before any travel along this road. Rain is expected tomorrow (Wednesday) in the area which could significantly effect travel along this road.
Birdsville to the South
The Birdsville Track (Approx 500km of dirt) from Marree to Birdsville is fully closed. Continued rain is expected on the track for the next 24hours. The track will be assessed when possible. It is recommended that an alternative route be planned. If the road doesn’t re-open in time for the event efforts will then be made to have the road open for persons exiting the event, SA Outback road reports should be checked for the most current information for this region.
Arrabury Road open and Cordillo Road 4WD only however please check local road reports as conditions could change quickly significant rain is falling south of Birdsville at present.
Birdsville to the East
NO CHANGE The Birdsville Developmental Road between Windorah and Birdsville is open. Local councils have been completing a lot of works on this roads and it is great condition. There is approximately 200klm of dirt on this road.
TIP OF THE DAY – Weather forecast indicate that the majority of the rain will fall around the Birdsville area tomorrow (Wednesday 28/6)and may last for a 12-24 hour period. Consider staying off dirt roads for this time to preserve the roads and hopefully make everyone’s continued journey safe.
