BUS PACKAGE FAQ'S

Tickets

You will not be sent a bus ticket. All passengers will be on a manifest, that the bus drivers will have.

If you have purchased a full package inclusive of tickets, you will not be emailed out any e-tickets. Your driver will issue you with your event wristband when you check in.

If you purchased your ticket separately from your package, you will be given the chance to pick up your event wristband from the ticketing desk, located at the Birdsville Visitors Information Centre.

Pickup Times & Locations

Below are the locations, address and pick up times. Please note, Burpengary Depot has free secure parking for your vehicle.

Baggage Limit

Each passenger can bring a 20kg luggage bag. Soft bags are preferred, rather than hard suitcases.

Alcohol

The Birdsville Big Red Bash is a BYO alcohol festival. No alcohol is sold on site.

Alcohol up to 1 case of beer or equivalent volume of other alcohol can be transported on the bus (in addition to 20kg baggage). Please note, no glass is permitted, so we recommend tinnies, cask wine, or if bringing bottled wine, you’ll need to decant into a plastic container before heading to the concert area. Alcohol can also be purchased on the road or from the Birdsville Hotel. We recommend bringing a small soft esky to keep your drinks cold and to transport your drinks from your campsite to the concert area. Ice is available to purchase onsite. A communal esky will be available in camp, but with limited space.

Tents

Tents are provided with camp stretchers, camp mattress, lantern and chair per person. If you opted for the additional sleeping bag pack ($50) it will be waiting for you on arrival in your tent.

Water

Drinking water will be supplied for bus passengers on site. Hot water is also available, just BYO mug, tea and coffee.

Toilets

Ample toilets are available through the campgrounds. The furthest you can expect to walk to a campsite toilet block is 150m, although most campers are much closer than this. Large banks of toilets are located closer to the concert area. The festival uses eco-friendly composting loos and are equipped with toilet paper.

Showers

There are no showers or running water at the festival site, however, the buses will do a trip into town each morning for those wanting showers. Please expect, there may be queues.

Camp Chairs

A camping chair will be included in your tent. You are permitted to take this to the concert area to watch the show. Please note, you are responsible for your chair, and there may be charges if lost or damaged.

Lighting

A lantern will be included in your tent, but please bring a handheld or headtorch also, as there is no lighting between the concert area and your campsite – approx. 200m.

Fires

There will be a communal fire in the bus area.

Food

There are around 20 food vendors onsite. Vendors sell a wide range of food including typical breakfast fare, vegan food, dumplings, pizza, curries, Mexican, burgers, hotdogs, ice-cream, coffee, soft drinks, bottled water and more. The communal bus area will have limited hot water available, but you’ll need to BYO tea, coffee, etc.

EFTPOS

Vendors will not have access to EFTPOS facilities (due to the lack of phone reception). Please ensure you bring cash. Our merchandise stand will have EFTPOS facilities and cash out available.

Phone Reception

There is no phone reception at the festival site. Phone coverage in Birdsville is limited to Telstra and Optus.

Power

There is no power onsite for campers unless they BYO. We recommend putting your phones on flight mode to preserve power, and bringing a battery bank to charge devices.

Weather

Birdsville in July typically pleasant during the day, with the average maximum temperature reaching low twenties. Overnight temperatures on average are around 6 degrees. It has been known to get down to as low as zero degrees overnight. We recommend brining clothing that you can layer, especially for early mornings and after the sun sets. A warm jacket, warm shoes and socks, scarf and beanie are all essentials in our opinion! If you have hired a sleeping bag set, it is rated to -5 degrees, but if particularly prone to the cold, please bring extra layers or an additional blanket.
